OYB Cycle Ride 2012
The 2012 OYB Cycle Rides start and finish at Sonning Common Primary School in Grove Road (please see map below). There are three routes which explore leafy lanes and the stunning local countryside, ranging from 5.5 miles to 12 miles, and up to a challenging 20 miles!
Riders will be set off in groups of ten, at one minute intervals. Children under 16 must be under the authority of a responsible adult and stay with that adult for the duration of the cycle. We recommend that each adult is responsible for no more than 2 children under 16.
Entry fees are £5 per individual, in advance. Enter before 9pm on 29th March 2011 and your name will be automatically entered into the free draw for a fabulous new bike, kindly donated by AW Cycles! Entries for the bike ride on the day will be £7 per individual, subject to space.
A registration form must be completed for every participant (either shown on a team sheet or as an individual). By preference, registration and payment should be completed online, or if not then returned by post. Entries will be acknowledged and each rider given a starting number. Online registration closes at 9pm Friday 20th April.
We shall be holding a second-hand bike sale on Saturday 17th March from 1pm - 3pm at Sonning Common Primary School. No charge will be made but sellers must stay with their bikes and remove them if they are not sold. All proceeds may be kept by the seller but donations to Sue Ryder will be welcomed. Bikes will be sold as seen and On Your Bike, Sonning Common Primary School and its PTA will accept no responsibility for any bikes sold.
All participants must ensure that their bikes are roadworthy and that all brakes have been checked. We strongly recommend that all participants wear a cycle helmet. Each participant must accept full responsibility for their equipment, for the duration of the event. We have created a page of hints and tips here, which includes details of a free Bike Clinic a month before the event.
Parents/guardians must be aware of the demands of the ride and they alone should make the decision about the chosen route. Note that all routes use country lanes and tracks. The longest route has some hilly parts. Due care should be taken by all participants to avoid injury or accident. Adults must ensure that junior team members are cycling in a sensible manner so as not to injure themselves or others. All riders must observe the Highway Code and ensure that utmost care is taken at junctions. Marshals are solely to indicate direction.
You undertake to be fit and healthy to participate and accept that SCPTA cannot be held responsible for personal injury, accident, loss, damage or public liability during the event. The Contact Person accepts responsibility for all Group Members listed on their entry form.
The PTA, school and other participants may take photographs during the event.
Hot and cold healthy snacks and drinks will be available from 10am until 1.30pm in the school hall.
There will be a water station after 3 miles on each ride. The long route riders pass the same point after 9 miles.
Cycle Routes
The 12 mile route extends the 5.5 mile route, and the 20 mile route extends the 12 mile route. They are not separate routes.
